The New Dimensions Lab is Africa’s most prestigious and successful initiative for immersive storytelling and is at the heart of what we do at Electric South. 139 individuals applied to the lab in 2024 from 22 countries across Africa. The 7th edition took place from 23 – 30 November 2024 in Gauteng and brought together 12 interdisciplinary artists from as far afield as Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, and Tunisia with 5 of the selected artist’s representing South Africa across 3 projects. For seven days, the lab cohort were in residence at Farmhouse 58 in the Cradle of Humankind, to workshop and develop their non-fiction XR projects with the help of global advisors who are experts in their field. The lab is supported by Agog, the Ford Foundation, and the National Film and Video Foundation.
For the second time, the lab was hosted in the Gauteng Province through a partnership with Farmhouse 58 on regenerative farmlands.
